Red River Rowing Club

The Red River Rowing Club (RRRC) is located on the banks of the Red River in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  A club that has evolved from the passion of people committed to the sport of rowing and providing a rowing environment that is inclusive, supportive and respectful.  Our founder started rowing on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay with Barrie Rowing Club, then under a series of work transfers had her introduced to London Rowing Club then Calgary Rowing Club and ultimately ending up in Winnipeg.  Having competed around the world and exposed to many various cultures in rowing it was very quickly realized that there was a need for a new rowing club in the city that focused on the athletes and active participation at all levels.  Our club is empowered by the passion of people that love this sport and want to see the success of our club.  The spirit and commitment to our club is the driving force behind how we continue to break all barriers, grow and bring out the best in each athlete we train.  Come be part of the Pelican Crew!

Lets talk Bert!

Our club has a mascot, he is a Pelican and his name is Roberto (Bert) and before you say it…………he is probably related to Scully (WMG mascot) in the long chain of pelican ancestry but Bert is ours and he is real.  For those whom have never been to Winnipeg, the pelicans in Lockport, MB is a big attraction.  Lockport happens to be on the Red River also so it should be no surprise that the pelicans make their way down to our club.  These pelicans are funny little birds and for some reason they love to chase or follow one of our athletes up and down the river.  We will admit that we are convinced it is the colour of her boat BUT the fact is, if she is on the water, they are not far behind.  Ironically she was originally a bit afraid of these birds but now she is completely infatuated with them and seeks them out each day.  For 2022 Bert has a friend most days so she now calls them Bert & Ernie but there are many mornings where Bert has multiple friends with him.  We welcome Roberto (Bert) & friends to the RRRC and are proud to have them be the mascot for our crews.

Learn to Row Programs

Test the waters—or dive right in at RRRC!

Whether you’re curious about rowing or ready to truly learn the sport, the RRRC offers the perfect starting point. We take a unique approach to teaching by exposing you to all facets of rowing, not just the basics. We believe that the fundamentals of rowing can’t be mastered in just a couple of short sessions. However, we also understand that some people want to try it out before committing. That’s why we offer two great options to suit your goals:

  • Taste of Rowing : A weekend introduction (Friday to Sunday)
  • Summer of fun : A once-a-week program running for 8 weeks

Our programs begin with land-based technical training and quickly progress to on-water practice. With small, personalized group sizes, you’ll receive the individual attention needed to truly connect with the sport we all love. Come join the Pelican Crew and discover what rowing is really about!
